Bingham Built

We created a new brand logo for the launch of Built Bikes / Bingham Built as a new top-end custom bicycle company launching within the well-established Kent Eriksen Cycles brand identity.

Brad Bingham is an acclaimed custom bicycle designer and welder – winning MANY frame building awards throughout a 20 year history working with both Moots Cycles and Kent Eriksen Cycles in Steamboat Springs, CO.  Brad is a titanium frame welding super-star at the annual North American Handmade Bicycle Show – his frame welds are PERFECT.

With Brad’s purchase of Kent Eriksen Cycles in 2017, he desired to establish a new “Built Bikes” brand to continue long-term through future ownerships while the initial “Bingham Built” new identity graphics signify Brad’s brand ownership based upon his award-winning history and current tenure at the helm.

Brad provided an initial sketch of a ship’s sail from his personal history along the Pacific Northwest Coast – desiring a personal touch to the bicycle head badge for his tenure.

We began our logotype concepts project focused on the long-term “Built Bikes” identity – creating several concept options for consideration with a final presentation of “BUILT.” as a text-only graphic of custom letter logotype of it’s own shape, size & style to uniquely brand the company.

We incorporated “Bingham Built” within the brand identity as secondary frame decal elements with options to initially include “Bingham” as a minor element of the logotype presentation – serving as an introduction of the brand launch based upon Brad’s acclaimed history within the hand made bicycle industry.

Several stylized ship’s sail head badge options were created as a personal representation of Brad – influenced from Brad’s initial project sketch.

Digitial compositions – including a branded hat & bicycle frame decals – were created to assist review of the new brand identity concepts ‘in action’ for the new company.

Bicycles frames require unique identity graphics solutions for brand design due to the spacial limitations for brand design such as a leading head badge for the vertical front head tube, the larger side display on the diagonal down tube, the narrow rear display of the angular seat stays, the narrow side display of the horizontal chain stays, and the narrow display of the vertical seat tube. Several logotype designs are necessary to effectively brand a bicycle frame while some placements may only allow a simple branded wordmark.
